Description: “Learn how storytelling can help you design and create meaningful landscapes with Registered Landscape Architect Bob Scarfo!

Storytelling is a people-centric approach to landscape design based on how most of us learned to read, write, and tell stories. You'll glean three main messages about this approach:

  1. Step by step, we all read our surrounding environments

  2. Explore a learning tool that expands our understanding of landscape design by comparing reading and writing to basic design, and then basic design to landscape design

  3. How to apply what you learn to a narrative-storyboard-landscape design process.

This approach was developed over a 35-year period in an effort to greatly reduce the angst and anxiety that often accompanies learning how to develop landscape designs. The use of storytelling is a valid approach to design a meaningful landscape. By expressing the design guidelines through landscape components, the characteristics of the story are mirrored in the landscape. What story does your garden tell?”
